Abuja: Corps member commissions initiative to empower women

A youth Corps member serving in the Federal Ministry of Power, Works & Housing Abuja, Kelechi Obi, has commissioned, her Women Empowerment Community Development Project in Mabushi community of Federal Capital Territory(FCT)Abuja to empower women with different types of skills acquisition to enable them carter for themselves. Obi made the disclosure during the commissioning of project at the weekend, enjoined the beneficiaries of the project to take advantage of the free two months training and seminar to better their family economy and their community. Corps member donates starter packs to Mabushi women

Member of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, in Abuja, Kelechi Obi, at the weekend, commissioned an initiative programme for women in Mabushi. The initiative targeted at training women in skills such as baking, shoe and beads making amongst others had over 30 participants. Obi, a corps member serving at the Federal Ministry of Power, Works and Housing, said the empowerment project has to do with skills acquisition and seminars. Obi explained that “we trained the women on different skills and we are giving them start up kits so that nothing stands as a restraint to them. While speaking at the event she enjoined the beneficiaries to take advantage of the free two months training and seminar to better their family economy and their community.  The skills empowerment were in the areas of - catering, cosmetology, making of ankara, jewelries, bags, slippers and beads. Legion to partner Nigerians on affordable housing

Director of Cooperate Affairs Nigerian Legion Morenike Grace Henry has unfolded plans by her organization to collaborate with Nigerians to provide affordable housing units to its members and private individuals. A statement issued by the Senior Information Officer, Federal Ministry of Information and Culture, Henry David, in Abuja on Wednesday, quoted Henry as speaking at the 101st National Convention of the American Legion in Indiana, United States of America, recently. Henry, the Head of Nigerian delegation to the convention, stated that this would increase the revenue base of the Legion, which according o her, was in agreement with the Nigerian Legion Act to acquire, establish and run agro-based industries, agricultural farms and estates in any part of the federation. She said this would enhance the relationship between the non-military personnel and the Legion by providing essential amenities to the members of the public. National Convention of the American Legion in Indiana, United States of America, said that the organization will collaborate with well-meaning Nigerians to provide affordable housing units to its members and private individuals. The Head of Nigerian delegation to 101st Convention and Director of Cooperate Affairs Nigerian Legion, Morenike Grace Henry made the disclosure yesterday in a statement signed by Henry David,Senior Information Officer. Nigeria, USA to address veterans’ welfare, housing challenges

Vice President of the United States, Michael Richard Pence, who expressed this at the convention, said the legion had helped more than 2,400 veterans in their search for jobs. According to a statement issued by David Henry, Ministry of Works and Housing, in Abuja yesterday, Pence said the American Legion raised more than $1.4 million for veterans’ hospitals, and donated almost four million hours of community volunteer service. Pence stated that the legion is making a difference in the lives of veterans serving the interest of both countries, adding that the organisation has also lent its voice to ensure that their accommodation challenges are addressed
