Nigeria and the United States of America, USA, have expressed similar interest in the provision of affordable housing and welfare of veterans amongst members of the 101-National Convention of the American Legion, in Indiana, USA.
Vice President of the United States, Michael Richard Pence, who expressed this at the convention, said the legion had helped more than 2,400 veterans in their search for jobs.
According to a statement issued by David Henry, Ministry of Works and Housing, in Abuja yesterday, Pence said the American Legion raised more than $1.4 million for veterans’ hospitals, and donated almost four million hours of community volunteer service.
Pence stated that the legion is making a difference in the lives of veterans serving the interest of both countries, adding that the organisation has also lent its voice to ensure that their accommodation challenges are addressed.
The vice president thanked the 45th President of the United States of America, Donald Trump for his support to the course of the legion.
Earlier, the Head of Nigerian Delegation at the convention and Director of Cooperate Affairs, Nigerian Legion, Morenike Grace Henry, unfolded plans by the organisation to collaborate on the provision of affordable housing units to its members and private individuals.

She said this would increase the revenue base of the Legion, which is in line with the Nigerian Legion Act.
The Act, she said, sought to “acquire, establish and run agro-based industries, agricultural farms and estates in any part of the Federation.”
She maintained that this would enhance the relationship amond the veterans, non-military personnel and the legion by providing essential amenities to the members of the public.
It would be noted that people at the convention are delegates from Nigerian Legion and those from the US, including National Commander, Brett Reistad, National Adjutant, Dan Wheeler, Congressman Jim Baird; representative of South Carolina, Patricia Harris and many important dignitaries from other countries
